名探偵ハリスは、謎の失踪事件の現場に招かれた。富豪の家から美しい絵画が消えた。事件の手がかりは一つ、絵画の前に残された一足の足跡だけだった。
Detective Harris is invited to the scene of a mysterious disappearance. A beautiful painting disappeared from a rich man’s house. There was only one clue to the incident, a pair of footprints left in front of the painting.

不可能な犯罪
絵画の前にはカーペットが敷かれていたため、足跡を残すのは不可能だという事実が、ハリスの頭の中で響いた。彼は家主に問いただし、前の晩にパーティーがあったことを知った。
The fact that there was a carpet in front of the painting, making it impossible to leave footprints, echoed in Harris’ mind. He asked the landlord and learned that there had been a party the night before.
絵画の前にはカーペットが敷かれていたため、足跡を残すのは不可能だという事実が、ハリスの頭の中で響いた。彼は家主に問いただし、前の晩にパーティーがあったことを知った。

被害者の写真と、深まる謎
ハリスはパーティーの写真を見つけ、そこに写っていた一人の女性が、その絵画の前でポーズをとっていた。彼女の靴がカーペットの隙間から足跡を残したのだ。

ハリスはパーティーの写真を見つけ、そこに写っていた一人の女性が、その絵画の前でポーズをとっていた。彼女の靴がカーペットの隙間から足跡を残したのだ。

It was the landlord himself who stole the painting. The woman was his accomplice, and she purposely left footprints to divert suspicion. Harris’ calm deduction solved the case.
絵画を盗んだのは、家主自らだった。女性は彼の共犯者で、わざと足跡を残して疑いを逸らすためだった。ハリスの冷静な推理で、事件は解決した。
